Iconic Restaurants You Grew Up With And No Longer Exist

Gino’s Hamburgers, 1957-1986

Famous for the “Giant” and “Sirloiner” the food chain opened its first location in 1957 in Baltimore. Big names like Muhammad Ali endorsed the simple drive-in fast-food chain, and it merged with Tops Drive-Inn that had 18 restaurants in Washington area, some of which were rebranded as Gino’s Hamburgers. Later the chain was bought by the Marriot Corporation in 1982 with all of it 259 locations that changed them to Roy Rogers Restaurants. However, the restaurants were closed gradually, and the last location shut down in 1986.
